The Minster Choir, made up of adults and children, sings at the weekly Sunday morning Sung Eucharist,
as well as at special services such as weddings and civic services.
Children are normally admitted to the choir from about the age of eight. Initially they join as 'probationers',
during which time they are expected to show commitment through punctual attendance at weekly Thursday evening
rehearsals and Sunday services, and demonstrate promising musical ability. After a period of not less than six weeks,
on the recommendation of the Director of Music, they are admitted as full choristers during the Sunday Eucharist.
The children follow the RSCM's specialist training programme, Voice for Life, which gives structured development in voice
production and musical knowledge - in essence, a free musical education for your child.
Adults join the choir to sing Soprano, Alto, Tenor and Bass. Experience and the ability to read music are beneficial
but by no means essential. We welcome students who wish to sing with us during their time in Staffordshire.
Choir practice is on Thursday evenings in term time - the children practice from 7-8pm, with the adults joining them
from 7:30-8:30pm.
If you are interested in joining the Minster Choir, contact the Director of Music, Jonathan Hill.
